Situational Overview

A leader in developing innovative biomarker products and services was experiencing long manufacturing lead times for their reagents. Time was lost with ineffective troubleshooting and inefficient processes.


CEG anf Firefly performed a top-down assessment of the organization, to identify and quantify improvement opportunities.

Solution

Using the DMAIC process, the team identified multiple improvements. Value-stream mapping revealed opportunities to streamline activities and eliminate NVA. The team implemented multiple mistake-proofing tools to reduce person hours and improve quality. SOP’s were developed for each stage in the process, along with improved process metrics.


Results

Time to order a kit reduced dramatically from 3-4 days to 2-4 hours. Average days elapsed to manufacture a kit went from 244 days to 88 days and overall metrics improved. As a result, significant morale improvement was seen amongst manufacturing employees.
