Session 2: Manager as Coach (3 hours)

An important part of a manager’s role is to empower and develop their team members to reach their full potential. This session will focus on using effective coaching behaviors together with a framework for coaching conversations that avoid defensiveness and promote joint problem solving.

  • Critical Coaching Behaviors
  • Setting the Foundation
  • Exploring the GROW Model
  • Summary and Next Steps

Session 3: Developing People and Team Culture (3 hours)

If a message is to have impact and meaning, a leader’s effectiveness is dependent on not only knowing what to communicate, but knowing how to communicate. In this session we’ll explore how observable behaviors often map to different DiSC® styles and how this can affect and influence how individuals receive and respond to communications.

Topics:

  • Review of Everything DiSC®
  • Guess the DiSC® Style
  • Inferring Others’ DiSC® Styles
  • Leading and Managing Using DiSC®
  • Scenario Discussions

Key Takeaway:

Prework for Session 4

Session 4: Mastering Critical Conversations (3 hours)

As we become more comfortable working in virtual environments, we now need to make sure we are adapting our interactions for the challenges that virtual platforms and distance work can bring. This course tackles a challenge both in virtual and face-to-face interactions: difficult conversations. We’ll look at ways to build confidence and capabilities with regard to having successful “challenging” conversations at work. The skills learned and practiced in this course can be applied in person as well as virtually to successfully navigate sensitive situations and critical communications in the workplace.

Topics:

  • Practice active listening techniques in a real-life scenario.
  • Distinguish between functional and dysfunctional conflict.
  • Articulate the importance of choice and control in mitigating a conflict response.
  • Leverage various techniques to re-establish emotional equilibrium.
  • Utilize a five-step model for navigating successful conversations.

Key Takeaway:

At the end of this session you will be able to successfully navigate critical communications in the workplace.

Prework for Session 5

Session 5: Optimizing Outcomes Through Better Decision Making (3 hours)

As human beings, we are not very good at making decisions (even though we think that we are).  According to psychologist and author Daniel Kahneman, our decision-making processes are “alarmingly contaminated with cognitive biases.” Fortunately, making better decisions is a learnable skill, and that is the focus of this session.

In this interactive workshop, we will identify key drivers of good decision making, examining ways to separate facts from perceptions and embrace “cognitive dissonance.” Participants will be introduced to a four-step framework to enhance the quality of their decisions. After exploring various decision-making tools and techniques, they will focus on practical application within a work setting.

Topics:

  • What Makes a Decision “Good?”
  • How Cognitive Bias Shapes Our Thinking
  • The Four Villains of Decision Making
  • Decision Making Tools and Techniques

Key Takeaway:

At the end of this session you will be able to leverage a four-step framework to make better decisions.
